How To Get Ready For Your Ultimate Road Trip

Road tripping is one of the best ways to travel. You can do it however you want. You are in control. If you like a particular place then why not stay a couple of extra days? If this sounds good to you then I am glad you found this post. I am heading to Canada soon and road tripping around for one month. I cannot wait! But I need to make sure I am prepared. I wanted to create this post for not only myself but you too!

Maintenance Of The Car

This is pretty obvious but very important. Make sure your car is all up to date with a service. Check the lights, oil, windscreen wipers all of the necessary things. I could think of nothing worst then going on a road trip and the car breaking down half way!

Create An Itinerary

Or a least a rough idea because you probably have a time schedule to follow. It is good to have an idea of where you are planning on staying each night. I have done it both ways. When I booked in advance it was really easy to find affordable accommodation in the area I wanted. Also a place with good parking too! I also booked the day of arriving to the destination. It wasn’t too bad but always feels more stressful when you do it short notice. Helpful tip –  If you have a hire camper van it is A LOT cheaper for accommodation. You can just book a campsite in sleep in the car. Saves you a lot of $$$. So I recommend planning ahead of the trip if you can!

Pack A First Aid Kit

It is better to be safe then sorry. Just have a basic kit with all of the essentials. It should also included emergency contact numbers and car insurance. Have a copy of a map/directory because even though everything can be done electronically it is best to have a back up plan. Packing a first aid kit also gives peace of mind so thats always a plus.

Food and Drinks

Buy plenty of water! Of course grab a lot a snacks too. I recommend buying a majority of your food from the grocery store. instead of eating out at cafes and restaurants. It will start to be a very expensive trip. So if you want to stay on a budget stock up at the stores. By the way, as you start to reach smaller towns the grocery store prices do increase. So just a heads up.

It would be a pretty boring road trip if you didn’t have anything else to do then sit and wait for your arrival at the next destination. So its time to get a little creative and figure out what you are going to do for the next 8 hours… Make sure your radio works obviously, but when you get out of

range have your iPhone or iPod ready. So you can keep listening to all your favourites songs. Download some apps to play and movies/tv series to watch, bring a book (if you don’t get car sick!) and make sure you are going with good company of course!

If you have ever been on a road trip where did you go? What was your favourite part? Also if you haven’t been on one yet where would you would want to go? Check out some of my Ireland posts. I road tripped around the entire country in 10 days. I hope this post was helpful and let me know your answers to the questions. I would love to hear about them!
